When Mrs. O met Princess Kate: What they wore

Michelle Obama chats with the UK's newly minted princess at Buckingham Palace during a state visit.

Princess Catherine and Michelle Obama have a lot in common, style icon-wise. Both set off trends with every outfit, mix high and low with ease and probably every once in a while just wish people would stop obsessing over their clothes.

No such luck, ladies. For their first-ever meeting, both women chose romantic pieces in subdued hues. Mrs. O's pick, reported Mrs.-O.org, was a mint green silk printed dress from designer Barbra Tfank (her pricey pieces are sold at Barneys New York).

Kate went a little more mass-market with a bandage dress from one of her faves, British-based retailer Reiss ($340, though it has sold out already online!) and a pair of simple black pumps.

Classy choices, all around, though the UK's Daily Mail called the First Lady's dress "safe."
